Ruritan Community Momentum
Award
For more than forty years the Mount Tabor Ruritan Club
has been active in community service in
the Blacksburg area. Each year through two fund-raising
activities (five monthly Fish Fry events in
the summer and apple butter sales in the fall) we
provide over $10,000 in financial support for
various community needs.
Now we want to provide a major one-time investment of up
to $5,000 in our community, in addition to our regular on-going
donations to community groups. But we’re going to give you, the
community, the opportunity to help us choose the new major project.
For your project to be considered, the applicant must:
-
be a non-profit organization, church, or unit of
local government such as a public school or library,
-
have a physical location (e.g., office, home of club
president) in Montgomery County,
-
serve residents of the Blacksburg/Montgomery County
area, as defined by zip codes 24060, 24061, 24062, or 24063, and
-
use the funds only for special, usually one-time, purposes,
(i.e., applications to provide basic operating
support for day-to-day expenses such as heat, lights, and supplies will be rejected).
Three major criteria will be used in
selecting the project to be funded: the project will
-
respond to an important community need,
-
have an impact on the community, and
-
provide some visibility to the Mount Tabor Ruritan
Club.
If you meet all of these criteria, choose and click on the button above for an application form
to solicit ideas from community organizations.
-
Choose the pdf version if you wish to print
the form and attach the required typed information on a separate
page.
-
Choose the doc
version if you wish to download the form, fill it in and print the
entire application form as one document. (This document
is in Microsoft Word 2003 format.)
So, if your community service organization has a need or
sees a community need that can be solved
with up to $5,000 in a one-time project, please submit
your application. Applications must be
postmarked by October 15, 2008.
We anticipate
announcing the award at the Mount Tabor Ruritan Club meeting on December
4, 2008.
For more information or answers to questions on
this community investment, please contact Jim Moore (552-4688,
