24th Annual

FOURTH OF JULY PARADE

Blacksburg, Virginia

• The Mount Tabor Ruritan Club is sponsoring the Twenty-fourth Annual Blacksburg 4th of July Parade.
• The theme is ‘TODAY’S YOUTH — AMERICA’S FUTURE’.
• We invite you to join us with your floats, marching units, antique cars, race cars, horse units, fire engines, scouting units, bands, sports teams, etc.

Schedule:

• Sunday, July 4th, 2009, beginning promptly at 3:00 PM.

Route:

• Beginning on Eheart Street at Old Blacksburg Middle School,
• Ending off North Main Street on Lucas Drive (near YMCA Thrift Shop).
• Blacksburg Transit will have shuttle buses available to return marchers to the Middle School.

Check-In and Line-up:

• 2:30 PM — Line up on Eheart Street. (Click for map.)
• Line-up position will be e-mailed to participants a few days before the parade.
• Ruritan Club members will be on hand on Eheart Street to assist with line-up.

Theme:

• TODAY’S YOUTH — AMERICA’S FUTURE

Float Limitations:

• No more than 13 feet high.

• Candy may be passed out, but MUST NOT BE THROWN FROM VEHICLES. This is so kids don’t run into the street near vehicle wheels to pick up candy.

• Vehicles must travel at parade speed and not accelerate towards spectators.

Trophies will be awarded for

• Best Theme Representation

• Best Youth Unit

• Best Overall Unit.

Following the parade at 4:00 PM, the Lyric Theatre will screen a free movie "Apollo 13", sponsored by the Mt Tabor Ruritan club. Also several Blacksburg downtown merchants will have July 4th specials.

Beginning at 6 PM, the Blacksburg Parks & Recreation Department, at Blacksburg Municipal Park near the Blacksburg Community Center, will present

• The Meter's Running featuring the Big Dog Brass

• Blacksburg Community Band

• Blacksburg Community Strings

• Celebration Chorus

Fireworks begin at 9:30 PM.
