BLACKSBURG JULY 4th PARADE WINNERS
Light rain cleared just before Blacksburg's 22nd Annual July 4th
Parade rolled onto Main Street. The parade, sponsored by Mount Tabor
Ruritan Club was led by the Grand Marshal, Mayor Ron Rordam. Over a
hundred vehicles, walking units, and floats lined up for the event. The
Color Guard was supplied by Boy Scout Venture Crew 44 chartered to
Blacksburg Presbyterian Church. This year’s theme was "Blacksburg: A
Special Place".
Trophies were presented to the Montgomery County Democratic Committee
for "Best Overall Unit," to Dori Del Hills stables for "Best Youth
Unit," and to Christ Episcopal church for "Best Theme Representation".
Special ribbons also were awarded to the Virginia Tech Orientation
Leaders (Most Blacksburg Oriented), Blacksburg Baseball Association (Ty
Cobb Award), United Pet Group/Tetra (Fishiest), Carlos Elias (Newest
Citizen), Electric Vehicle Club of NRV (Super Solar), Knights of
Columbus (Fanciest Dress), Pathway Christian Academy (Most Patriotic),
Hot 100 WFNR-FM (Hottest), Best Buy Geek Squad (Pocket Protector Award),
Blue Ridge Model A Club (Historic Award), & Joseph Collins' WWII Jeep
(Best Restoration).
Parade Chairman, Gavin Faulkner, would like to thank the judges —
Leslye Bloom, Evelyn Williams, Dick Wadley, Dave Roper & Katy Irene St.
Marie — and everyone who helped to make this year’s parade one of the
biggest and best ever.
